Writing and Orthography:

“Bemaalot haktiva” – a series which shows and practices the printed letter in a unique, easy, and efficient way, besides that it gives rules as how to stay on the lines as well as avoiding mistakes in orthography

The objective of the series:

To get the children to a good level in writing, which includes to learn how to write in a notebook as well as correct knowledge in orthography and to get to the point where they listen and write without errors.

Contents of the series:

The series “Bemaalot haktiva” deals with the books that teach writing in a correct and efficient fashion up to learning how to avoid orthographical errors.  Additionally, the books Bemaalot Hei and Vav include exercises to go over the material again with additional new material.

The acquisition of the letters is being realized in a very easy fashion, utilizing memory supports which help remembering their shapes. Before, there is a wide practice which helps with the transfer from printed letters to cursive writing, the distinctions between letter ז and ג and the correct use of the Sofiot. Besides they teach how to write on a line and in a notebook and a unique method is being offered to copy from the blackboard and to write correctly in a dictation without orthographical errors.

Besides the two volumes from the series “ Bemaalot Haktiva” essays are being shown with the correct spelling rules from the volumes Dalet and Hei from the series Bemaalot Hakia”, as will be shown further ahead.

Later on, for older students, a special book is being presented called “Argaz Hakelim Lakotev Hamumche”which gives the students effective and practical tools to acquire the correct spelling rules based on a complete comprehension of the process in a systematic fashion.

Ideas for enrichment:

  1. Before teaching the letters, it is recommended to secure the learning through sensorial activities: writing the letters on flour, rice etc. to sculpture the letters with gel or plasteline.
  2. During the learning, it is recommendable to make a dictate after every three letters with the new words which have been learned. One can combine the writing of the letters inside a story with pictures.
  3. It is necessary to remind the children to stay over the line with a long letter and under the line with a short one.
  4. It is necessary to incorporate the practice to copy letters into the notebook.
