Language and reading comprehension
The series “Sharsheret Hasafa” was created out of necessity to teach the children in the Diaspora the Hebrew language in a structured way with all its diverse aspects.
The series helps children to develop the following areas: all the requirements for learning the language and its comprehension.
- Vocabulary: the series wants to achieve that the children should acquire a vast vocabulary and its use through a story that goes parallel with the theme of the new words.
- Understanding of the text: After each story, there are questions and activities to deepen the understanding of the text from a beginner’s level to the understanding of texts on an advanced level.
- Furthermore, the children acquire a unique method of learning comprehension to encourage independent reading. This method has been proven to be very effective in teaching Chumash and Mishna.
- The structure of the language: the books touch on various grammar rules which are the foundation of the language. This acquisition is necessary to give the children the grammar rules to help them to construct proper sentences with the correct vocabulary which will help them in the future to read the Tora.
- By the time the children complete the series “Sharsheret Hasafa” they will have achieved the following skills: control of the vocabulary, grammatical rules, making proper sentences and paragraphs orally and in writing, and expressing themselves in a high-standard Hebrew.
For adults who would like to learn the basis of the language on their own, the book ”Sharsheret Hasafa” exists.
Another book on this level is called “Navin Behanaa” (for boys)/ “Hachavaya Shebakria” (for girls), which develops a deep and pleasurable reading experience from simple words to the reading of paragraphs and instructions.
