Reading
The “Bemaalot Hakria” method is the only method that stresses a continuous line from learning the letters to reading without nikud and reading Rashi. The difference between it and other methods is that it puts lot of importance to practicing what has been already learned previously. Without practicing, the student will have difficulty holding on to the level achieved while progressing in building up his / her reading skills which in the process get slowly more and more complex, for example: Shva Na and Shva Nach, Chatafim Patach Gnuva (when the last letter of the word is ha, h or e with Patach), Kamatz Katan, Imot Hakria, etc, skills required for correct reading.
The material was put together throughout many years in a most professional way proving itself in Hebrew and foreign languages. The learning process is gradual and learner-friendly, imprinting in the children a sense of comprehension and an understanding of the grammar rules (nekud).
With the help of reading Tehillim and Midrashim, the children acquire practical reading skills.
A special method was formulated to teach children to read without punctuation (nekud) by identifying and understanding the letters in the text. The method has been particularly effective for children in the diaspora (who of course are less capable of recognizing grammar patterns and family words) and helps them to connect to higher levels like Rashi and Mefarshim.
The teaching of Rashi´s alphabet is achieved with an easy and friendly method which gives the children self-confidence to learn how to read it with great fluency and precision.
Resulting from our long experience, we recommend our unique presentation of Tehilim in 2 levels:
- In the first level, all the chapters of Tehilim are printed in big and clear letters, which helps to encourage fluency and, at the same time, it emphasizes precise pronunciation of the chapters (preparing for more complex words).
- In the second level, the chapters of Tehilim are printed in regular size and with Rashi, besides there are Midrashim with and without punctuation to practice precise reading on a higher level.
Another book which is part of this series is called “Bemaalot Hadiyuk”: it is specially dedicated to pupils who present difficulties in their reading, leaving out letters or/and vowels without paying attention to the details, causing reading errors.
